Background

The Viessmann group of companies is one of the leading international manufacturers of heating systems. Dr. Martin Viessmann is the third generation of his family to manage the company, which was established in 1917. The group turnover totals approx. 1.4 thousand million euros and it employs around 8,500 employees.

In connection with the headquarters of the Viessmann corporation, a energy plant has been constructed showing a large part of Viessmann product portfolio. In addition to showcasing the products, the Allendorf Energy Plant also produced energy for the Viessmann headquarters. And the facilities are also used for training purposes.

Viessmann wanted to show an Austrian Mawera wood chips boiler mounted with a Stirling DK engine and thus demonstrate the potential for small-scale combined heat and power production from wood chips. Mawera was aqcuired by the Viessmann Group some years ago and Stirling DK has, for many years, had a close co-operation with Mawera.

Plant Description

The plant consists of a 400 kWth Mawera wood chips boiler and a Stirling DK 35 kWe engine. The engine was delivered to Mawera as an OEM delivery. The installation was thus performed by Mawera.

The plant is fully automized and designed to operate up to 7,000 hours per year.
