November 1st 2009Containerized Updraft Gasifier Plant put into Operation in Copenhagen

Today, Stirling DK put into operation a 35 kWe/140 kWth Stirling plant in central Copenhagen.

Throughout the rest of 2009 and most of 2010, the plant will supply heat for the Copenhagen district heating system and power for the grid. The total energy production corresponds to the consumption of 70 average Copenhagen households.

The plant has been constructed inside three (3) standard 20' ship containers. This enables pre-assembly under factory conditions, easy transport to Site, and a fast start-up at Site.

The plant has been made as part of a cooperation between Stirling DK, Amagerforbrænding (waste incineration company), Force Technology, The Technical University of Denmark, and Barritskov Land- og Skovbrug (ecologic farmer).

The project has been supported by the Danish EUDP-means (funding for Energy Demonstration Demonstration Projects).

In connection with the palnt, Stirling DK has opened a visitor facility which contains an exhibition about the plant and the technology.

More information about the plant can be found here.

Press statement concerning the opening can be found here.

September 4th 2009Stirling DK Powers the World's first CO2-neutral Music Festival

The world's first CO2-neutral music festival, CO2PENHAGEN, was officially opened today. Between Friday and Sunday, the music festival is expected to be visited by around 6,000 music lovers. See more on http://www.co2penhagen.com/.

The music festival is being held at the campus area of the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and all the power consumed in connection with the festival will be produced by different energy technologies present on the campus area of DTU.

Stirling DK has put into operation a commercial Stirling engine installation for DTU. During the festival, this plant will contribute 40% of the electricity for the festival and will thus the technology with the largest contribution.

September 1st 2009Updraft Gasifier Plant at the Technical University of Denmark Commences Operation
Today, operation started on Stirling DK's latest installation situated on the campus areas of the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). Approximately 1% of DTU's total power consumption and 2% of its heat consumption will be supplied by the installation.

The plant includes a Stirling engine with an output of 35 kWe of electrical power. The surplus heat from the plant, in the form of hot water, is fed into the district heating system of the DTU campus.

The plant is fuelled by wood chips originationg partly from cuttings from DTU park areas. In this way, the plant is a stand-alone facility that enables DTU to become partly self-sufficient with CO2-neutral power and heat from locally availabel fuel sources.

More information about the project can be found here.
