Contract Signed for Stirling Plant in Flensburg, Germany

A contract has been signed for the delivery of a 70 kWe / 280 kWth updraft gasifier plant to be delivered to Stadtwerke Flensburg gmbh in the northenmost part of Germany, close to the Danish Border.

The plant will be fuelled by wood chips and the heat in the form of hot water will be supplied to an existing district heating network. The power, which will be generated by two (2) 35 kWe SD3-E engines, will be sold to the electrical grid.

This is Stirling DK's first of expected many future contracts with German Stadtwerke's. Stadtwerke are typically either municipality owned or owned by large utility companies. They are present in numerous locations all over Germany.

The plant will go into operation in August 2009.

First Irish Contract

A contract has been signed for the delivery of a 35 kWe /1480 kWth updraft gasifier plant to be delivered to National Research Institute (NRI) of Ireland.

The plant will be fuelled by wood chips and the heat will be used for heataing of buildings of the NRI . The power, which will be generated by one (1) 35 kWe SD3-E engine, will be sold to the electrical grid.

The updraft gasifier will have a capacity of 800 kW and the installation is therefore prepared for the possible later expansion by addition three 35 kWe engines. The total electrical output of the plant can thus reach 140 kWe.

This will become Stirling DK's first installation in Ireland. This market is considered to be very attractive due to Ireland's large biomass resources and strong focus on CO2-neutral energy productions.

The plant will go into operation in May 2009.

World Premiere of Pyrolysis Plant Combined With a Stirling Engine

On October 24th the Danish Minister for the Environment Troels Lund Poulsen officially inaugurated the new pyrolysis plant at Barritskov Gods supplied by Stirling Denmark. The plant is the worlds first pyrolysis plant based on a Stirling engine and will provide heat and power to the facilities. Furthermore, the plant will produce a valuable charcoal for soil improvement and CO2 sequestration. The plant has been designed by Stirling Denmark based on the SD4 engine and on research on pyrolysis at DTU, Denmark. The plant will initially run on wood chips from recycled wooden crates, but the plant is expected to be able to handle many different types of biomass.

EUDP Project Awarded to Consortium Led By Stirling DK

The Danish Energy Agency has awarded a consortium consisting of Stirling Denmark, the Technical University of Denmark, FORCE Technology, Barritskov Skov- og Landburg, and I/S Amagerforbrændingen EUDP-means of 4.990 mio DKK for the development of updraft gasifier based plant which will be operating at the premises of I/S Amagerforbrændingen in the centre of Copenhagen. The plant will be developed as a containerized plant which can operate in both grid-connected and "off-grid" mode using a whole range of different biomass fuel types. The project will also show alternaive uses of the generated heat by adding an absorption cooling unit and a de-salination unit and thus produce cooling and convert salt water into fresh water. The plant will be in operation in 2009 and will serve as a demonstration site in connection with the energy summit taking place in Copenhagen in November 2008.
